Everything on one card: CeBIT 2010 :: 2010-01-15 17:20

True to its slogan “Everything on one card”, PCS will demonstrate ways to implement a multitude of applications on a single card.

At this year’s CeBIT trade show in Hanover, PCS Systemtechnik GmbH will again join forces with eight of its software and system house partners to showcase innovative solutions covering time & attendance recording, access control, video surveillance and production data acquisition (Hall 6, Booth D 12). True to its slogan “Everything on one card”, PCS will demonstrate ways to implement a multitude of applications on a single card.

“This has evolved over time” is often given as the reason when an organization uses a variety of different cards and electronic key tags for controlling the access to a building or special area, for time & attendance recording, and for paying in the cafeteria. At this year’s CeBIT, PCS will inform about the capabilities of advanced card management, which will cut costs for a company in the long run by increasing its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Eight professional software partners will present their application solutions for time management, access control and production data acquisition.

As in previous years, the PCS booth will put a special spotlight on various solutions from PCS partners. These include industry-specific and horizontal solutions based on the INTUS product family and generally characterized by the independence of the hardware and software components so that maximum investment protection is ensured. The PCS partner portfolio ranges from solutions for working time management, staff placement planning and a workflow-oriented staff management system to visitor management, a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) implementation and leading-edge card technologies.

<h3>Access reader with state-of-the-art security technology.</h3>

The INTUS 600 is a RFID access reader that scans cards using the highly secure Mifare DESFire EV1 and Legic advant reading methods. Downward compatibility makes sure that conventional access cards based on the Mifare Classic or Legic prime methods can still be used, for example in a migration project.

The INTUS 600FP fingerprint reader features the same design as the INTUS 600 RFID reader, but is additionally equipped with a powerful fingerprint sensor. With a resolution of 256x360 pixels and over 500 dpi, the capacitive sensor even meets the strict requirements according to HSPD-12 (Homeland Security Presidential Directive). Moreover, it is certified according to FIPS-201 (Federal Information Processing Standard) and conforms to the NIST SP 800-76 standard (National Institute of Standards and Technology).

It is very robust and resists electrostatic discharge up to 15 kV. Both access readers have won the renowned 2009 iF product design award.

Palm vein recognition for high-security applications.

For high-security applications, PCS presents its INTUS PS palm vein recognition system. It is an ideal solution for all areas or buildings requiring maximum security, such as data centers, executive suites or airports. Palm vein recognition offers maximum protection against manipulation. In addition, the process is contactless and ensures maximum hygiene as well as excellent ease of use. It combines the convenience of a fingerprint reader with the security of iris recognition. For the combined operation of RFID readers and palm vein recognition systems, the same card can be used to store access data alongside biometric data (Template on Card).

NetworkOnCard lets offline door terminals go online.

Another important application is additionally provided on the access card with many PCS customers: NetworkOnCard.

NetworkOnCard now completely integrates INTUS PegaSys offline door terminals into the INTUS online access control system. The mechatronical INTUS PegaSys door terminals and door cylinders turn into an integral component of an online access control solution which receives data from a higher-level system such as SAP. Using only a single access card, the user is able to open all the approved doors – those equipped with an online access reader just as those secured by a mechatronical door terminal. NetworkOnCard automatically updates the access authorization with each booking at an authorization terminal or reader. If an employee uses his or her access card to open a door at an access reader with INTUS PegaSys authorization function in the morning, the authorizations for the mechatronical door terminals are automatically written to the access card at the same time. All the authorizations issued are logged in DEXICON – the certified PCS subsystem for the SAP ERP modules HCM and Operations – to increase the general transparency of all the access authorizations granted. For visitors or third-party employees, the authorization for specific doors can be restricted to specific time ranges.

Significantly enhanced: the INTUS ACM40 Access Control Manager.

The new INTUS ACM40 Access Control Manager replacing the existing INTUS ACM4 model is another featured product PCS will introduce at the CeBIT. Equipped with a significantly more powerful CPU, the INTUS ACM40 accelerates the master data download by a factor of about ten compared to its predecessor. It goes without saying that the INTUS ACM40 offers all the PCS standard security features such as integrated firewall, AES encryption and hierarchical (three-tier) password protection. But it is also equipped with a bistable relay for the secure connection of an intrusion detection system – as part of the standard configuration.

Video surveillance with CONVISION: easier to use with state-of-the-art technologies.

In the video surveillance segment, PCS will highlight new solutions for the CONVISION product family offering even greater ease-of-use and functionality.

CONVISION H.264 cameras and encoders will be supported by the upcoming release of the market leading SeeTec Enterprise video surveillance solution (to be available as of April 2010). You can use PCS as your one-stop source for CONVISION cameras, encoders and the SeeTec Enterprise software for video surveillance, licence plate recognition and video analysis. For video documentation applications integrating video surveillance with an access control system, our DEXICON Enterprise solution in its new version 3.4 allows you to define video profiles independently of room and time models. This means that additional images can be recorded and forwarded depending on the threat level of a room or at certain times of day or night in the event of an alarm.

OPC support.

In large companies, the integration of access control systems with video surveillance also comprises the incorporation of the solutions into a higher-level control center or building management system.

The new DEXICON OPC server allows you to connect the DEXICON Enterprise access control system to any control center system with an OPC DA interface. It then provides status information such as door state, door release state or terminal connection state. In the opposite direction, DEXICON receives control statements from the control center system via the OPC interface to release a door once or permanently.
