PCS Systemtechnik acquires interest in video technology manaufacturer Convision Systems :: 2007-07-16 11:43

PCS Systemtechnik GmbH, a leading manufacturer of systems for access control and time & attendance recording, has acquired a 25.1% interest in video technology manufacturer Convision Systems GmbH within the framework of a strategic partnership.

PCS has been distributing Convision products for two years with great success. By acquiring an interest, PCS aims at taking on an active role in the development of new video solutions. IMS Research expects a market volume of € 250 million for 2008 in this sector.

"We have many years of experience in the security technology market so that we are thoroughly familiar with the prodcut requirements of our customers and software partners. Access control and time management today cannot be imagined without the convergence of different technologies. We are increasingly integrating video surveillance with our solutions. In convision, we have an ideal partner for the joint development of a next-generation integrated video solution," says Walter Elsner, Chief Executive of PCS.

Convision founder Frank Pölzl explains: "The integration of PCS access solutions with Convision video technology has proven very successful. PCS is an ideal partner for us to link the two technoligies even closer and jointly develop new solutions. While we have so far relied on specialized dealers and distributors as sales channels for convision products, we will from now on also use PCS's proven and extensive partner organization.

PCS terminals and access devices communicate via Ethernet and are therefore based on  IP technology which is increasingly important in video technology as well. Because of the large installed base of analog video equipment, many companies today opt for hybrid solutions which allow them to deploy their existing analog cameras in mixed configurations with IP cameras. The increasing adoption of high definition video technology (HDTV) in the consumer sector means that there will soon be low-cost video components significantly more powerful than IP video equipment available in the market today.

Both companies, PCS and Convision, expect that the broadening of their portfolio has substantial potential for additional sales increases in the current financial year.
