Wanzl steps on the gas: implements SAP integrated time & attendance system in just six weeks :: 2006-05-20 13:09

The problem was not unusual at first sight: Wanzl Metallwarenfabrik, the world's leading manufacturer of shopping trolleys and vendor of a wide range of products for self-service, store equipment, transport and storage, relied on an insular solution for time & attendance recording and access control running on an IBM computer. The data collected in this way was transferred to the SAP system via an unsecured connection using an obsolete software system that had been programmed in-house. The loose coupling between the two systems occasionally led to the loss of a large number of bookings.

PCS was given the job to implement a new time & attendance recording and access control system in Wanzl's four manufacturings sites in Leipheim and Kirchheim, Germany. The new system was to be integrated with SAP system via the SAP HR-PDC interface. Time was short: in mid-November, PCS was awarded the contract. By 2 January 2006, the time & attendance recording system and parts of the access control system were supposed to be up and running. This meant that PCS had just six weeks -including the Christmans holidays - to interface more than a hundred readers and terminals to the SAP system and to produce 2,000 personalized ID cards.

PCS met the challenge with the help of its DEXICON ACCESS software. This interface is now used to download master data to the time & attendance recording system and to automatically transfer data from the system to the SAP system. Lost bookings are thing of the past - as is the burdensome and expensive process of manually completing bookings. "We were impressed by how quickly and reliably the new system was installed," said Ralf-Klaus Lorenz, Wanzl's HR Director. "Now my people have more time again to take care of more important things than failed bookings."
