A lot of things are associated with biometrics: identity theft, privacy, the fingerprint in the passport on the one hand, high security and a very convenient method to log in to your smartphone or PC on the other.

An access card can be forgotten or lost, lent to another person or misused. It does not identify the person that’s currently holding the card.

- Verification versus identification.
Identification (1:n) is very convenient in practical use as it relies on a personal identifying feature only and there’s no need for a card or tag.
