Biometric access control – maximum security and convenience without an ID card
Biometric access control is the modern solution for companies with the highest standards for both security and user convenience. Instead of traditional RFID cards, technologies such as fingerprint or palm vein scanners are used to ensure the unmistakable identification of each individual – without physical ID cards that can be forgotten, lost, or shared. This significantly reduces administrative effort and ensures smooth processes at access points.

Since biometric access systems process particularly sensitive personal data, they are subject to the GDPR. Here, the biometric feature – such as a fingerprint – is used to confirm an already known identity, typically in combination with an RFID card or a PIN. This two-factor authentication offers a high level of security, which is especially required in high-security areas. PCS recommends this approach wherever maximum security and clearly defined access control are essential.
Identification (1 : N)
In this case, the biometric feature is used as the sole identifier – for example, with a fingerprint access reader. This method is particularly user-friendly and convenient, as no card or PIN is required and a finger cannot be forgotten. It is ideally suited for smaller access control systems. However, some individuals may have concerns about the storage of biometric data. A suitable solution is the combination of card and biometrics, in which the biometric information is strongly encrypted and stored locally on the personal card.
